A Message From French Class

Mme Carragher's Christmas Letters:

Bonjour Parents.

In your child's FSL class, we have connected with an elementary school in Givry, France to exchange emails with their students.  Each student here has a student in Mme LeSouder's class in College Le Petit Pretan and we practice writing in our second languages. We have received two emails from them and we have written one letter to them.  The students are learning about cultural traditions and daily life in France and we are sharing ours as well.

To ensure PRIVACY, ALL student emails go through the teachers and no personal information is revealed from OUR end.  I have advised students that no personal email addresses, last names or photos can be sent.  We have located the school and Givry, France using Google maps and Google Earth and have noticed how small France is compared to the grandeur of Canada.  If you are interested, please ask your child to look on his Gmail account to see the correspondences.

Please let me know if you have any concerns, comments or questions.

Joyeux Noel et Vive la compagnie!

Book Fair Leaders

Book Fair Leaders

After a suggestion from Mr. Trueman that  each grade group would get to choose 2 books for our classroom library, Matthew and Alex took the challenge and the leadership role of collecting titles suggested by their peers.

The students then voted on their top 2 choices for each grade.  Here are our Book Fair leaders with the bounty they helped to organize and choose.

Grade 5 Titles:

  • 50 Things You Should Know about the Second World War
  • My Friend, the Enemy
Grade 6 Titles:

  • Regenesis
  • The Babysitter''s Club Graphic Novel

Parents, if you have any youth novels around your home that may need a new home, our class library is always looking for donations, be it chapter books, non-fiction books, comics, and graphic novels, to name a few!

Language Arts News Articles Completed!

  • Good copy news articles have been returned to students, along with a rubric and comments from Mr. Trueman, showing and explaining their marks.
  • Students have been asked to communicate the following in their agenda:
Show your parents your two marked articles and get them to sign each, showing that they have seen your efforts.

Q:  What if you or your child is not satisfied with a mark received?
  • Your child is responsible for requesting a meeting with Mr. Trueman to discuss their news article and to explain how they are planning on improving it.
(Some students have already approached Mr. T. and have made a plan for improvements.)
  • Mr. Trueman must agree to assessing the work for a second time, and that will be dependent on the student's explanation of their own work, understanding where they did well, and where they can improve their mark.
  • Once improvements have been made by the student, they may hand it in a second time for Mr. Trueman to assess their work once again.
Any improvements to a News Article must be completed and handed back to Mr. Trueman by November 17th (term one ends that week).
