Dansereau Stories CTF

Career and Technology Foundations Presents:
Building Dansereau’s Community :
One Duck Story at a Time

Mr. Trueman
Course Outline and Expectations
Term 1 - September 2 - November 20

BIG IDEAS we will explore:

  • What makes for a vibrant, supportive community?
To what degree do our students feel like part of École Dansereau School?
  • How can we find interesting stories to share?
How do good writers bring interesting stories to life?
  • How can art and literacy work together to build community?
To what extent can a paper mache duck and it’s interesting story affect how students feel toward École Dansereau School?

Classroom Expectations:
  • Respect yourself, others, and your surroundings.
  • Be on time and prepared with materials.
  • Take responsibility for your decisions, and accept the consequences of your choices.
  • All work is to be completed to the best of your abilities.
  • Be persistent, open to new ideas and ways of thinking, and forgive yourself!

Materials:
The following supplies are required for The Dansereau Stories Project:
  • Duotang filled with lined paper
  • Pens
  • At least one colour of correction pen (ex. red/green)
  • Pencils and erasers
  • At least 2-3 colours of highlighters
  • Your Dansereau Stories Project may require specialty materials.  You will plan for these materials, and your plan/materials budget must be approved by both your parents and Mr. Trueman.

Marks & Assessment:

All assessments will be related to at least one of the big ideas outlined on page 1 of this syllabus.  These assessments will come from teacher’s formative and summative assessments and evidence-based student self-assessments.  They will be reported in PowerSchool using the following codes:

PRF
Proficient
Achievement meets grade level expectations. Student demonstrates achievement independently.
PRG
Progressing
Achievement inconsistently meets grade level expectations. Student requires support in some areas.
BEG
Beginning
Achievement does not yet meet grade level expectations. Student requires ongoing support.

A variety of formal and informal self-assessments will be used.  You will also be taught how to accurately self-assess your work – this will help you to discover how YOU learn best, and help you to improve the quality of your work as well.
