A Message From French Class

Mme Carragher's Christmas Letters:

Bonjour Parents.

In your child's FSL class, we have connected with an elementary school in Givry, France to exchange emails with their students.  Each student here has a student in Mme LeSouder's class in College Le Petit Pretan and we practice writing in our second languages. We have received two emails from them and we have written one letter to them.  The students are learning about cultural traditions and daily life in France and we are sharing ours as well.

To ensure PRIVACY, ALL student emails go through the teachers and no personal information is revealed from OUR end.  I have advised students that no personal email addresses, last names or photos can be sent.  We have located the school and Givry, France using Google maps and Google Earth and have noticed how small France is compared to the grandeur of Canada.  If you are interested, please ask your child to look on his Gmail account to see the correspondences.

Please let me know if you have any concerns, comments or questions.

Joyeux Noel et Vive la compagnie!

Book Fair Leaders

Book Fair Leaders

After a suggestion from Mr. Trueman that  each grade group would get to choose 2 books for our classroom library, Matthew and Alex took the challenge and the leadership role of collecting titles suggested by their peers.

The students then voted on their top 2 choices for each grade.  Here are our Book Fair leaders with the bounty they helped to organize and choose.

Grade 5 Titles:

  • 50 Things You Should Know about the Second World War
  • My Friend, the Enemy
Grade 6 Titles:

  • Regenesis
  • The Babysitter''s Club Graphic Novel

Parents, if you have any youth novels around your home that may need a new home, our class library is always looking for donations, be it chapter books, non-fiction books, comics, and graphic novels, to name a few!

Social Quiz Home Reflection

Social 5 Landform/Quality of Life Quiz Home Reflection
or
Social 6 Democracy Quiz Home Reflection

Look for your child's quiz, along with a request for student reflection Wednesday, December 9th!

Please review the Social Studies Quiz Home Reflection (Grade 5 and Grade 6 versions are in this link) with your son or daughter.  I have encouraged them to bring their quiz and all support documents home so you could examine and discuss their results with them.

Please check into Powerschool to see your son or daughter’s mark, along with a comment for them about their results.

Students have until Monday, December 14th to return their responses to the quiz.

Grade 5 parent/ guardians: you will also see another assignment listed, a targeted list of spelling terms taken from their quiz, which your child will use as a basis for improving their personal spelling strategies.

  • Your superhero’s name and origin story. (How is their origin connected to the Charter rights they protect?)
